What is My Proof of Insurance?

A simple, easy to use solution for CSIO members to deliver digital policy documents, including eSlips, to customers’ mobile devices. Customers receive a secure email with their policy document attachments and a link to add the eSlip to their digital wallet on their mobile phone.

How was My Proof of Insurance developed?

A project team made up of insurers and broker members worked in collaboration to develop the solution on behalf of the P&C broker distribution channel.

Which Broker Management Systems (BMS) are integrated with My Proof of Insurance?

My Proof of Insurance is currently integrated with the following BMS software:

  • Applied TAM, version 2018 and later
  • Applied Epic, version 2019
  • CSSI TBW
  • Deltek, version 1.15.60 and later
  • Vertafore SIG, version 2018.01 and later

For instructions on how to set up the functionality in your BMS, contact us at edelivery@csio.com

Can I email eDocs and eSlips directly from my BMS?

Yes. Once your brokerage has set up the My Proof of Insurance functionality in the BMS, you will be able to send any document, including eDocs and eSlips, as email attachments directly from your BMS to your customers.

Do I need to re-enter all the information to generate an eSlip in the BMS?

There is no re-keying in information. Once your brokerage has set up the My Proof of Insurance functionality in the BMS, the required information will automatically be pulled from the client file and the eSlip will be populated for the customer you select.

With a BMS integration, how can I tell if an eSlip has been delivered successfully?

There are two ways to determine if eSlips and documents have been sent successfully to your customer:

  1. The dashboards and reporting screens in the My Proof of Insurance solution provide details on emails that are not delivered successfully.

2. Your brokerage will receive eDocs notifications for every My Proof of Insurance email sent, containing the details on what was sent, who it was sent to, and the delivery status. This notification message automatically gets stored in the client file once your brokerage does their downloads.

Are emails containing eSlips and eDocs sent out automatically or do I have to initiate the process?

You will need to initiate and send out any eSlip or document to your customers.

What is digital wallet technology?

‘Mobile digital wallet’ is a blanket term for mobile device technology that lets you perform many tasks and transactions that previously required a paper or physical card. Digital wallets use bank-grade encryption software and can store credit cards, rewards cards, boarding passes, concert tickets and more.

Which digital wallets are recommended?

For iPhones: Apple Wallet is pre-installed. You must have the iOS 6 software or higher to be able to use it with My Proof of Insurance.

For Android devices: You need to download a digital wallet from the Google Play store. Two digital wallets that comply with security best practices are Pass2U and WalletPasses, both available for free on Google Play.

What is stored on the digital wallet?

Only the proof of auto insurance (Pink slip) is stored on the digital wallet. Any policy document attachments sent over email must be saved elsewhere, such as on a computer or tablet.

Is My Proof of Insurance cloud-based and secure?

Yes, My Proof of Insurance is located in the Microsoft Azure cloud located on Canadian servers, following industry best practices for securing customer information.

How are emails secured through My Proof of Insurance?

Only emails sent to email addresses that use Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption will be delivered successfully. The vast majority of email domains, including web-based services, are TLS encrypted.

If my customer’s email address is not secure and emails are not being delivered, is there anything we can do?

The customer will need to create a new email account with a TLS-compliant domain.

How does a customer lock their phone?

Apple and Android smartphones let users lock their screen at any time, preventing access to personal information and blocking notifications of incoming text messages, calls and emails.

For instructions on how to do this go to https://www.myproofofinsurance.ca/#privacy

How do I sign up?

Designate one (1) representative from your organization to act as the Organization Administrator. Organization Administrator should complete the request form to request access to My Proof of Insurance.

How do I receive my account information?

The Organization Administrator will receive a confirmation email with secure user login credentials (username, password) and login URL. The Organization Administrator can then create additional accounts for users at their organization.

How much does it cost?

If you are a member of CSIO, there is no additional cost to register for My Proof of Insurance. If you are a member of your provincial broker association you are automatically a member of CSIO and will just need to register for a CSIO.com account first.

You can get a CSIO.com account here.

Who do I contact if I experience an error?

Contact the CSIO Help Desk at 1-800-463-2746 or by email at edelivery@csio.com.

Where can I find instructions on how to use the solution?

You will receive the My Proof of Insurance Solution User Guide upon registration.

How do customers receive and store their digital policy documents?

Consumers will:

1. Receive digital policy documents via an email sent from "My Proof of Insurance”

2. Save documents to the device of their choice

3. Add eSlips to their smartphone’s mobile digital wallet

See a video demonstrating the consumer experience.

How do customers protect their personal information when displaying digital documents to others?

Apple and Android smartphones enable users to lock their screen at any time, preventing access to personal information and blocking notifications of incoming text messages, calls and emails. For instructions on how to do this go to: https://www.myproofofinsurance.ca.

What if a customer lends their vehicle to another driver?

The eSlip in the mobile digital wallets is easily shareable with other drivers, even for commercial fleet policies.

What are the benefits of using My Proof of Insurance rather than just sending clients an email directly?

An eSlip can be saved by the customer directly to their digital wallet, using technology that they are already familiar with.

You are able to easily attach their eSlip and allow them to add it to their digital wallet where it is easily accessible. You can provide your customers with a seamless, digital experience without having to invest in other expensive products on the market.

Additionally, sending policy documents through My Proof of Insurance is a secure way to transmit confidential customer information. You also have advanced benefits of tracking successful email deliveries via the solutions dashboard.

What information is on the eSlip?

All the same information on a paper pink slip is available on the digital pink slip. In addition, you are able to add your brokerage website, phone number and email.

What reporting capabilities does My Proof of Insurance provide?

The solution provides reporting and dashboard capabilities to members, indicating the status of all emails sent and whether or not customers downloaded their eSlip(s).

An Activity Note will be sent to a broker’s BMS advising on the status of messages to their customers. This occurs even if the information is sent by the insurer. Alerts will advise the broker of any failed deliveries and the reason.

Does My Proof of Insurance comply with privacy, e-commerce and with anti-spam legislation?

Yes.

Can I use My Proof of Insurance even if some of my insurer partners do not?

Yes, you can use My Proof of Insurance with any insurer, regardless of whether they've signed up for the solution.

Can My Proof of Insurance solution be used for more than auto insurance?

While sending out eSlips is only possible for auto insurance, the solution can be used to send documents for all lines of business – personal, commercial lines, and farm, including fleet policies.

Can this solution accommodate brokerages that have more than one location and address?

Yes. Each location with a different address will need to register for its own My Proof of Insurance account.

Is the eSlip retractable if the policy is cancelled midterm?

No, the eSlip is not retractable. As with the paper copies, once the eSlip is sent to the customer, it is the customer’s responsibility to manage their eSlips.

Can an eSlip automatically be re-sent to customers when there is a change or renewal to a policy?

No. You will need to re-send an updated eSlip every time there is a change to a policy or a policy renewal.

What types of documents can My Proof of Insurance send my customers?

The My Proof of Insurance solution enables you to send any policy documents (such as renewal, billing, endorsements etc.) for personal, commercial lines, and farm to your customers. Files can be sent in the form of PDFs, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or image files. A maximum of five files can be attached, with a maximum file size of 5MB each.

Can customers store their policy dec pages in a digital wallet as well?

Because the eSlip is the document that needs to be ready for display at any time, it is the file that is stored in the digital wallet. However, customers can choose to save their dec page as a file on their computer, tablet or smartphone.

Are there separate English and French email templates?

Yes. There are email templates for both English and French. The solution is fully bilingual.

Can I customize the email templates?

Yes. You can customize the email template according to your brand.

How can I change my brokerage name or logo after signing up for My Proof of Insurance?

Email eDelivery@csio.com with any updates required and CSIO will make the changes.

Can I customize an email to a specific customer?

Yes. You are able to customize the email for the customer. See your user guide for full instructions.

Are there any materials that I can use to educate my customers on eSlips?

Yes! CSIO has created the myproofofinsurance.ca website. Direct your customers to this consumer facing site that explains eSlips and the My Proof of Insurance solution.

Is the eSlip valid across Canada?

Approval for digital auto insurance cards can vary between provinces and territories. A paper copy of the pink slip is required unless otherwise stated by the regulators in the province. Drivers traveling across provincial borders should carry a paper copy of their pink slip.

Is digital proof of insurance accepted in the US?

49 U.S. states have approved e-cards, including all 11 states that border Canada. New Mexico is the only state that does not allow digital proof of insurance.
