2017 Annual Report
Highlights in the 2017 annual report include:
Cities, Data and Privacy in the Age of the Connected Consumer
Commerce, consumers and cities run on data - but who owns it, and who should have access to it? As Google affiliate Sidewalk Labs demonstrated in its real-estate pitch to develop Toronto’s waterfront, the prospect of sensors and cameras on every street raises important questions how to balance the benefits of technology with the privacy of ordinary citizens. Susan Crawford will discuss the innovations in data, connectivity and technology in the public and private realms, as well as the implications and opportunities available to the insurance industry.
Susan Crawford is an acclaimed professor at the Harvard School of Law, and former Special Assistant for Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy to President Obama. She co-led the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) transition team between the Bush and Obama administrations and is also the author of Captive Audience: The Telecom Industry and Monopoly Power in the New Gilded Age, co-author of The Responsive City: Engaging Communities Through Data-Smart Governance, and a regular contributor to Wired magazine. She also served as a member of Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Advisory Council on Technology and Innovation and is now a member of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Broadband Task Force.
