MAINTENANCE REQUESTS
Standards Work Groups
Standards Work Groups are the means through which CSIO standards participants and CSIO members play an active role in maintenance of the CSIO Standards.

Any participant may request changes to the Standards using a Maintenance Request (MR), and propose ideas for new standards. All standards participants are welcome to attend the regular Standards Work Group meetings where MRs and ideas are discussed.

Each change is debated with reference to business and/or technical requirements, feasibility and impact. The Work Group considers alternative methods of implementing the change and agrees on a recommended method. Occasionally, the Work Group may refer items to the CSIO Technical Advisory Group (CTAG), a small group of people with a high level of experience in the CSIO

EDI Standards, for a more intensive review.

Maintenance Request Process

The Standards are modified on a regular basis to adapt to changes in the insurance industry originating from legislation, business requirements, technology or any other factors.

The official way to request a change to the Standards is using the Maintenance Request process. The process is initiated by a submitter who completes the appropriate form. After validation of the proposed changes by CSIO staff, the submitter presents their request to the Standards Workgroup meeting. The changes approved by the Standards Workgroup go through CTAG (Committee Technical Advisory Group) for technical review and to insure that proposed changes do no conflict with any of the Syntax and Standards rules. A draft document, highlighting the proposed changes to the Standards is then forwarded to CSIO members in a ballot. Once votes have been tabulated, the approved changes to the Standards are distributed to the members.
